Summary
This activity has taught me that there are 2 different types of encyclopedias. The general encyclopedia is what I would say most everybody uses on a normal bases. Now I know if I were to research or explore a certain topic, I can use the subject encyclopedia. I find this very beneficial for any purpose. The module 'Exploring Topics' gives me good tips on how to focus and narrow down a broad topic. I will surely refer to this until I can get the hang of breaking down a topic. These tutorials overall are great, but having the hands on will be more helpful. After using the GVRL and the Wikipedia, I would say GVRL is great for subject searching. There is a lot of sources you can use in it. Wikipedia has a lot of sources too, but not as good as GVRL. Wikipedia is good to get a idea of what your looking up but sometimes that info is incorrect. Wikipedia is easier and quicker to access for everyone, so its more like a 'Quickpedia'.
Research questions
As we progress through the digital age, how much safer can we feel about personal information being transferred more electronically?
I would look to subject encyclopedias for how safely digital information is being sent through the web. I would look at the web for opinions from other sources on this. Magazines will be helpful for current information.
I would look to the web for statistical information on how often the phones get hacked. I would look at broadcast media and newspapers for current information.

As cell phone companies are advertising more 'smart phones' for consumers, how will these recent 'hacks' of cell phones effect the consumers decision to purchase them?
I would look to the web for statistical information on how often the phones get hacked. I would look at broadcast media and newspapers for current information.
What can the carriers do to protect their consumers from these malicious attacks to their consumers cell phones?
I would look to the web for expert opinions on how carriers can help consumers. Also, I can look there on the consumers perspective of what the carriers could do to help them feel safer. Magazine articles would be helpful for this also.
Boolean search:
Carriers and proctect and ("cell phones and hack*")

Plagiarism
1. Last summer, my family and I traveled to Chicago, which was quite different from the rural area I grew up in. We saw the dinosaur Sue at the Field Museum, and ate pizza at Gino's East.
I don't believe this passage needs to be cited because it is someones personal anecdote on a trip. They reference locations that are common knowledge.
2. Americans want to create a more perfect union; they also want to establish justice, ensure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty for everybody.
This passage could have been cited by collecting the publishers info that got these statements and the year of publication. Perhaps they could have quoted "perfect union" if that was mentioned in the publication.

3. I find it ridiculous that 57% of high school students think their teachers assign too much homework.
This could also have been cited with the publishers info and where they got those stats.
4. Martin Luther King was certain that ("Letter from the Birmingham Jail", 2nd sentence) nobody would want to be contented with a surfacy type of social analysis that concerns itself only with effects and doesn't deal with root causes.
This passage was just paraphrased from the original one. It should be cited as follows above.
5. Martin Luther King wrote that the city of Birmingham's "white power structure" left African-Americans there "no alternative" but to demonstrate ("Letter from the Birmingham Jail" para. 5).
This passage has been correctly cited. The exact words King used in his letter are quoted and both the title and location of the quotes are referenced.
6. In "Letter from the Birmingham Jail," King writes to fellow clergy saying that although they "deplore the demonstrations taking place in Birmingham." King also says that the statement, "fails to express a similar concern for the conditions that brought about the demonstrations."
This passage is quoted correctly except for it combined another sentence as one whole message.
7. My friend Kara told me that she loves living so close to the ocean.
This does not need to be cited because it is coming from a persons discovery.
8. Americans are guaranteed the right to freely gather for peaceful meetings.
This may be cited because it is information that is widely known from the constitution.
I'm not sure if I did this assignment correctly but I have learned from this, how to cite materials from different sources. I know its easier to use the COP rule for citing my sources. Being specific with details is critical from what I read here.I learned what materials to cite and what not to cite. Basically any personal ideas and opinions don't need to be cited. I will make sure to acknowledge the sources I read and pay careful attention to how it is presented.

Just the beginning....
Wow, My first ever blog! Hopefully it won't be my last. This was easy to setup w/ the help of the video. I didn't know you could make your own URL for a blog, so I thought that was cool. I do have a facebook account to keep track of family and friends, but I'm not always looking through it like most people. I think having a digital workspace makes for quicker work. You can create documents faster than writing it out on paper. You can share whatever you want to whoever in seconds. The space is more organized and not cluttered like having sheets of paper everywhere. There's just more pro's about digital workspace then cons in my opinion.
